Open Education & Open Access: Open Access Publishing

Open Publishing Opportunities

Some of the McGraw-Page Library's publisher package journal subscriptions include Open Access publishing agreements.

Wiley Journals: A statewide pool of money is available for use towards publishing OA in Wiley journals. For information on applying for these funds, see https://vivalib.org/va/wiley-open-faq

Institute of Physics (IOP) Journals: Authors  will be able to publish journal articles open access at no fee from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2024.  This includes 58 hybrid journals as well as 18 fully open access journals, with CC BY 4.0 as the standard license.  This agreement does not include the American Astronomical Society (AAS) journals published by IOP. For more information see https://vivalib.org/va/collections/iop

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), which the Library helps to support, is a curated directory of high-quality peer-reviewed open access journals that also provides a searchable index of the articles published in the journals. Use this tool to locate an appropriate journal that is either Open Access or is Hybrid, a combination of OA articles and subscription only (traditional publishing) articles.

Also, if you are writing a research grant with an expected outcome of a publication of your research, consider including OA fees as part of your grant request. Many granting agencies will provide OA fees to ensure the broadest dissemination of the research that they have funded.
