About Canvas

Canvas logo

Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) used by Randolph-Macon College. Many R-MC faculty use Canvas to manage their classes. Faculty may post their syllabus and assignments on the course page, and many also accept electronic submissions of assignments through the Canvas platform.


Getting Started with Canvas

  • Access R-MC Canvas -
    • Use Chrome or Edge for Mac and PC. Other web browsers may cause problems, especially for important tasks such as submitting assignments and taking quizzes online. Be sure to deep Chrome or Edge up to date.
    • Navigate to on your desktop, laptop, or mobile device, and log in with your R-MC username and password. 
    • Download the Canvas Student app from the App Store (for iPhone and iPad), or the Play Store (for Android). Login with your R-MC username and password.
  • Set Your Canvas Notification Preferences - this controls how often you are alerted when an instructor posts an announcement or makes a change to your course. Recommended frequency is at least daily to make sure you don't miss important communications.

  • View your grades
  • Submit an online assignment
    • Use your phone to scan a multi-page document into a single file for upload
  • Take an online quiz
  • Use Canvas on your Mobile Device - Be aware that not all features are fully supported in the app. It's recommended you do important tasks like taking quizzes and submitting assignments using the current version of Chrome or Edge.
