About Canvas

Canvas logo

Canvas (located at https://canvas.rmc.eduis the learning management system used by Randolph-Macon College. Many R-MC faculty use Canvas to manage their classes, post the course syllabus and other course documents; they may also require students submit assignments and take online quizzes and exams on Canvas.

Information on this page also covers Canvas Studio, a system students can use to manage media and record their own presentations for courses.

Note: Canvas gets updated fairly regularly. Students are strongly encouraged to visit the Canvas for Students course-site for alerts and tips.

Getting Started with Canvas

Accessing R-MC Canvas

  • Use Chrome or Edge for Mac and PC. Other web browsers may cause problems, especially for important tasks such as submitting assignments, taking quizzes and posting to discussions online. Be sure to keep Chrome or Edge up to date. Then navigate to https://canvas.rmc.edu on your computer web browser and log in with your R-MC username and password.
  • Download the Canvas Student app from the App Store (for iPhone and iPad), or the Play Store (for Android). If prompted to "Find my school", type "RMC". Login with your R-MC username and password.

Your Canvas Account and Courses

  • Set your Canvas Notification Preferences: This controls how often you are alerted when an instructor posts an announcement or an assignment, or makes a change to your course. Recommended frequency is immediately or daily for important communications, such as Announcement and Due date.
  • Watch this 4-minute video to learn how to navigate the course environment.
  • Update your Canvas Profile
  • View your grades
  • Use Canvas on your Mobile Device - Be aware that not all features are fully supported in the app. It's recommended you do important tasks, including taking a quiz, submitting an assignment and posting to discussions using the current web version of Chrome or Edge.
