Book Displays @RMClib: Hispanic Heritage Month

Digital book displays that follow themes that are being promoted by the library.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the cultures and contributions of Hispanic-Americans. The celebration runs from September 15 - October 15th because September 15th is the independence day of five Latin American Countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. the independence days of three more countries are later in the month: Mexico (16th), Chile (18th), and Belize (21st).

The library has put together this guide to showcase just a few of the many resources available both in the library and online that highlight Spanish, Mexican, Central and South American, and Caribbean history and culture.

Dolores

Movie poster with Dolore Huerta on a megaphone

Dolores Huerta is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first farm workers unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century - and she continues the fight to this day, at 87. With intimate and unprecedented access to this intensely private mother to eleven, the film reveals the raw, personal stakes involved in committing one's life to social change.
