Primary Sources Guide

Primary Sources Published in Books

Personal papers or memoirs are often collected, edited and published as a book. These can be found using library catalogs and other book search tools.

If you have the name of historical figures and other people related to your topic, you can search for their names as authors.

Subject and keyword searches for the individual people will return primary sources and well as secondary sources. Use one of the following terms with the individual’s name to limit your results to primary sources:

  • Diaries
  • Correspondence
  • Oral history
  • Personal narratives
  • Journal
  • Letters
  • Memoirs
  • Autobiography
  • Sermons
