Makerspace Assistants are responsible for daily basic operations of the Makerspace and act as first contact between the space and any patron.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Punctuality and responsibility.

 

Skills

  • Understand and explain Makerspace Hours and Policy to patrons.
  • Able to operate and create projects with all Makerspace equipment available.
  • Access to the Makerspace's Media Library.
  • Improved organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Improved multimedia and creative skills.

 

Makerspace Assistant Responsibilities

Duties may include any of the following:

Makerspace

  • Check out/check in Makerspace equipment.
  • Answer basic informational, directional, and library/Makerspace policy questions.
  • Help patrons locate equipment.
  • Provide explanation of Makerspace equipment, including but not limited to: 3D Printer, Laser Cutter, Poster Printer, Button Maker, VR Headset
  • General organizational and office work.
  • Provide the above during campus festivals, class projects and other events that might occur over the semester.

Other

  • Assist with special projects.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures of the Makerspace.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • Students in this roll are customer-oriented, possess strong communication skills, are comfortable giving out instructions to library users, including students, faculty, staff and visiting public patrons.
  • Responsibilities include checking in/out equipment to patrons, providing explanations and demonstrations of the equipment inside the Makerspace, helping patrons operate equipment when necessary (e.g. Button Maker / VR), as well as any other assignments given by Library Staff.
