Transcription Project Overview

Thank you for your willingness to assist us with transcribing some of the many handwritten documents in our collections! We are using a crowdsourcing service called FromThePage to organize our document transcription projects and to house and make available to the world the completed pages. Since this is a crowdsourced site, anyone in the world can contribute to any of the projects that archives, libraries, and museums have placed on the site. Our projects are at https://fromthepage.com/randolph-macon-college

Please read the Getting Started section below for information on creating a transcriber account, then review our Guidelines page, and the resources on reading handwriting and other helpful information sources. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about our projects. We appreciate any and all help you can give us- even a couple of transcribed pages or proofreading completed pages helps a lot!

Getting Started

You will need to create an account at FromThePage. Go to https://fromthepage.com/ and select "Become a Transcriber" to create your account.

  1. You must create a Username. This will display on the site and can be seen by anyone. To ensure your privacy, we recommend that you do not use your real name, email address, or include any identifying information as part of your Username. Review the Privacy Policy linked on the registration page for more information.
  2. You must then include a valid email address, which will only be made available to site administrators so that you can be contacted concerning your contributions.
  3. Create a secure password. We do not have access to your password.
  4. It is optional to share your real name with us. This will be secure and we will not use it publicly without your permission, such as in a newsletter article thanking our volunteers. We would love to know who you are so we can thank you personally for helping us with our projects but we will always respect your privacy!
  5. The RMC projects are listed at https://fromthepage.com/randolph-macon-college
